OFFERING:

1/2 Day and All Day REAL Trail rides in the Arbuckle Mountains year 'round where wild life abounds and the scenery is gorgeous.

'Lesson' Rides where riders are taught how to control and handle horses.

Rides at the ranch where riders learn to 'work' with cattle and American Bison.

Wolfe Ranch Quarter Horses is conducting trail rides In the beautiful Arbuckle Mountains south of Sulphur, OK.    We are taking recreational riders out for 1/2 or full day rides offering scenic riding with great photo opportunities.   Many historical sites dating back to 'Indian Territory' days can be seen only from horseback.   We are also fortunate enough to have permission to ride on some of the biggest and most historic ranches in Southern Oklahoma.    We are using our well trained registered Quarter Horses that we use for everyday ranch work.    You don't ride the usual trail riding 'plugs' that are offered everywhere else.    These horses have been used to 'work' in these rugged canyons for years and several of them have recently been used in ranch rodeos or show competition.   Most of these 'working' trail horses are for sale.   Call or e-mail us to schedule a ride.    Each ride is "set up" to suit the recreational goals and riding experience of each group of riders.   Scenic photo opportunities are many and we frequently encounter wild game animals.    The feedback we are getting from riders is really exceptional and many return 2 and 3 times to ride again with us.

Pete is also taking out 'lesson rides'.  They are limited to 2 or 3 riders and he uses a 1/2 day trail ride to teach riders how to better communicate with their horse.   By the end of the ride they are usually loping circles around cedar trees and open meadows, stopping and doing sharp 'turn-arounds', backing between trees and brush piles, and more.  Call for details!

YES!!!  We take out trail rides in the winter.   We are here year 'round, the horses are here (and eat) year 'round and we would love to take you out on a winter ride.  The mountains have a lot more protection from the cold and we see a lot more wildlife in the winter.   As a matter of fact, this is where we ride our young horses all winter.   We ride near Arbuckle Lake where many BALD EAGLES spend the winter.    Give us a call if you're going to be in the area.

Definition of a 'Good' Trail Horse

A good trail horse is one that does everything and goes everywhere the rider wants with a minimum of asking.  He is quiet, does not easily 'spook' or shy.  He is sure-footed and watches carefully where he places his feet.  We ride in rugged country and is takes a horse a long time to learn to travel in it safely if he was not raised in that kind of environment.  (Our broodmares and foals spend their summers running in rough pastures.)  A good trail horse does not try to travel faster or slower than the group and above all, is well trained enough to leave the group and ride where he is told to go.  He has good manners, i.e. he stands quietly for mounting and dismounting, stops and stands still when asked, is not upset when something is dropped or gets around his feet, etc.  In other words, he is a well trained horse, not a 'deadhead' that follows the horse in front of him.  We gather and work cattle on all our trail horses!   Throughout the "WOLFE RANCH" web site, if a horse is said to be a good trail horse, it means just that.
